Description
The Statesman, Calcutta edition, Friday 15 August 1947. This is the Independence Day issue, headlined "Two Dominions Are Born", and it is complete with all 10 pages. Like the other surviving copies of this issue, it is printed in brown ink. The sheet measures 58 x 43 cm. It was printed by letterpress, so the type is pressed into the paper and can be felt on the reverse.
Inside are that day's race cards, football and cricket results, the Statesman crossword and period adverts from Hindustan Motors and United Commercial Bank.
Condition: the paper has browned with age, especially at the edges. There are fold lines from storage, and a small split where the folds cross. The video turns through all 10 pages.
