Prohibited & Restricted Items
Last updated: 06 Oct 2026, 06:10 PM
This policy lists items that may not be listed or sold on eBuy.store, and items that may be listed only under conditions. It applies to every listing, including listings by eBuy.store's own seller account. Sellers are responsible for checking that an item is lawful to sell before listing it.
1. Prohibited items
The following may not be listed on eBuy.store:
- Specified bank notes demonetised in 2016. The old ₹500 and ₹1,000 notes withdrawn in November 2016 cannot be transferred or received under the Specified Bank Notes (Cessation of Liabilities) Act, 2017, including as collectibles.
- Counterfeit currency and replicas of Indian currency notes. This covers forged coins and notes, and any reproduction that resembles an Indian currency note or bank note, even if it is marked or described as a replica.
- Current Indian legal tender offered as money. Coins and notes that are legal tender may be listed only as collectibles, such as fancy serial numbers, error notes or commemorative issues. Bundles offered at or for their value as money are not allowed.
- Wildlife articles. Ivory, and items made from or containing parts of animals protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, including protected corals and shells.
- Excavated and hoard material. Coins or objects from newly found hoards, uncleaned hoard lots, and anything dug up or detected without lawful authority. Treasure found in India is governed by the Indian Treasure Trove Act, 1878.
- Items removed from protected places. Anything taken from a protected monument, archaeological site, temple or place of worship, and any sculpture, carving or architectural fragment detached from a building.
- Stolen goods, and items the seller does not lawfully own or have the right to sell.
- Any other item whose sale is prohibited under Indian law.
2. Antiquities
Under the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972, a coin, banknote or other object that has existed for at least 100 years is an antiquity.
- Antiquities may be listed for sale and delivery within India only.
- Antiquities may not be exported out of India except with the permission of the Director General, Archaeological Survey of India. Buyers must not export items bought on eBuy.store in breach of this rule.
- Antiquities in categories that require compulsory registration, such as sculptures, paintings and illustrated manuscripts, may be listed only if they are registered and the seller completes the transfer formalities required by law.
- Sellers who sell antiquities as a business are responsible for holding any licence the law requires.
3. Restricted items
The following may be listed only on these conditions:
- Replicas and reproductions of coins, medals, tokens or other collectibles (other than Indian currency notes, which are prohibited) must say "replica" or "reproduction" in the title and description, and must not be capable of being passed off as genuine.
- Gold and silver items must be described accurately as to metal and, where known, purity and weight.
4. Enforcement
- Listings that break this policy are removed, and any related order may be cancelled and refunded.
- Repeated or serious breaches may lead to account restriction or termination under the Seller Enforcement policy.
- eBuy.store may report unlawful listings to the relevant authorities and will cooperate with lawful requests.
5. Reporting a listing
If you believe a listing breaks this policy, report it through the Platform or contact the Grievance Officer as described in the Grievance Redressal policy.
6. Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as the law changes or as new risks are identified. Revised versions become effective upon publication on the Platform.
